Digital Handcraft or Digital Art? Or: The Demoscene and its Sonnet.

Demoscene

Since the 1980s, the demoscene is a vivid group of code-enthusiastic programmers, musicians and graphic designers that create digital art together: so called demos.

Regarding their develpment, these demos, that run in real-time on cmputer, can be compared to computer games, but due to the lack of interaction they are rather representative. Comparable to the graffiti-scene, members of demo groups show their art and handicraft at numerous events worldwide that take place underground. There are competitions concerning different digital crafts where members compete in an open and very restricting way.

Tobias Kopka and Ekkehard Brüggemann introduce this demoscene, demonstrate its historical roots, show examples and betray secrets. It is going to be loud!
