With the Audio Contest, Tresentalk, 10 Years of PLAY Festival Birthday Gala and Networking, a very varied program awaits you at the next Gamecity Meeting on Thursday, November 2nd. At the same time, the purchase of our 6 Euro (plus 1,14€ Eventbrite-tax) ticket includes a day ticket for the PLAY Festival on November 2nd.

At the start of the evening event at 6:30 pm in the Markthalle / Room Marx, the three finalists of the Audio Contest will present their works to the public. Afterwards you choose the winner. After that, the motto is “Do you have some time for me? Time in Game Design” at our Tresentalk. The three experienced game designers Matthias Kempke (Daedalic), Peer Kröger (InnoGames) and Max Schulz (Threaks) take the time to discuss about the topic as a game element. We are looking forward to an exciting conversation. Afterwards, you can either end the colourful evening with the PLAY birthday gala or network with colleagues from the Hamburg games industry.

Although the jury chooses the winner for Most Creative Game and Most Innovative Newcomer, the visitors of PLAY will choose the winner of the Audience Award.

Anita Sarkeesian is a media critic and one of the leaders behind Feminist Frequency, a not-for-profit educational organisation that analyzes the representations of women in pop culture narratives. It is known best for the video series “Tropes vs Women in Video Games”, in which limiting and sexist representations of women in video games are illuminated. This project triggered a massive hatred campaign against Anita Sarkeesian, that was discussed in media worldwide.

In the Artist Talk we want to talk about how to become a media critic, what projects Anita is currently working on and which role games played in her childhood.

In the Artist Talks, we will direct the spotlight to people who made great games, had fantastic ideas or created exceptional game formats. We talk to artists, developers, inventors about their professional career, their creative influences, and take a look at the games of their lives: games that have been embedded in the memory and which have shaped their current work. The artist talk is moderated by Gunnar Krupp.

The artist talk with Anita Sarkeesian will be held in English.
