Hamburg’s developer and publisher Bigpoint belongs to the biggest companies and is a showpiece of the city’s games industry. Here, the browser game giant has its main headquarter beside several offices in Berlin, San Francisco, London, Paris and Malta.

The workshop’s head office will be at Bigpoint. The popular student’s workshops as well as short inputs, where pros talk about their everyday life in the gaming industry, will take place here.

Metropolis Kino

The Metropolis is Hamburg’s local movie theater. For more than two years, Kinemathek Hamburg e.V. makes a contribution to the city’s movie scene. After extensive renovation, the movie theater opened its doors in 2011 next to the state opera.

During PLAY, the PLAY-cinema including machinimas from all over the world and movies from national media pedagogical projects will be shown there.

Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe

The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe is one of the most significant museums for design and art in Europe. It contains 500,000 objects from 4,000 years history. It was opened in 1877 and is now an unusual place for the biggest narrations of human creativity. Its high-carat collections reach from antiquity to present and comprise European, Islamic and Far Eastern culture.

Nachtasyl

Above the Thalia Theater, there is the theater bar Nachtasyl. The actors created a room in which a lot happens that is offside the stage, but still worth seeing. So, the Nachtasyl is a place for a theater soap, talk shows, a movie theater, game shows, a reading, a concert, dance bar or simply a place for a drink.

During PLAY, the Nachtasyl offers the stage for the Poetry Slam. Performance art and gaming go hand in hand, an event for everyone above Hamburg’s state opera.

Ohnsorg Theater

For 112 years, the Ohnsorg-Theater is an established institution in Hamburg. Due to stars like Heidi Kabel, Henry Vahl and others, the theater could extend its status beyond the boundaries of Hamburg and Germany. The current ensemble und guest stars as well as regular television broadcasts of the Norddeutschen Rundfunks take care that the theater’s popularity does not decrease.

SAE Institute

Being worldwide available, the SAE Institute offers courses in the departments of audio, video and games in 26 countries. In order to provide practically oriented studies, the institute’s venues are equipped with modern hard- and software. During PLAY short workshops take place at the SAE Institute.

At the same place on the second floor, you can find the art school Alsterdamm.

Since 1991, the VHS-region Mitte/Eimsbüttel is in the former Montblanc-house in Schanzenstraße. It is five minutes away from underground station Sternschanze and is situated in the midst of Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel,a colorful and busy city center. However, parking spots are rare.
